Abstract

The aim of the present study is to compare the effectiveness of schema-based parenting and play therapy based on parent-child interaction (CPRT) on the quality of maternal care and self-control of elementary school children.
The research method was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a follow-up period.
The sampling method was as follows: first, one of the seven districts of Tehran was selected by drawing lots. Then, mothers of second- to fifth-grade students of this school were invited to complete questionnaires using a convenience sampling method. After data analysis, mothers with dysfunctional symptoms were identified and invited to participate in schema-based parenting and parent-child interaction training courses. The instruments of this study included the Maternal Care Quality Measurement Questionnaire (MSQS), the Kendall and Wilcoxon Self-Control Questionnaire (SCRS). Data analysis was also performed using the mixed analysis of variance test in SPSS 26 software. The results showed that schema-based parenting and play therapy based on parent-child interaction are effective on the academic excitement of elementary school children. Theeffectiveness of the interventions was also recorded in the follow-up phase.
